What is Medtal Health?

Medtal Health is a free, anonymous online support program for medical students with the goal of providing social support and information on free mental health resources including crisis support lines

The purpose is to offer students an opportunity to speak anonymously with fellow students about issues they may be experiencing that are associated with aspects of medical school such as stress, anxiety, feelings of depression, and  isolation

How Medtal Health is run:

  • Once a week, a zoom link a session will be held where anyone is free to join to speak with one of the student volunteers anonymously

  • Students will use an anonymous username and have their cameras and microphones turned off

  • Students will be placed into break out rooms for a one on one anonymous conversation with a student volunteer

  • Discussion will utilize the chat option in the break out room

  • Everything said in these sessions will remain confidential

Student Volunteers

  • Students who are volunteers are not expected to diagnose, treat, or manage issues of mental health, but rather are providing a support system who is willing and ready to listen to anything another student is going through and offer advice on strategies for studying, handling stress, anxiety, and feelings of depression

  • Student volunteers will learn strategies of active listening and facilitating conversation with those who are experiencing difficult times.
