Peer Listening volunteers application and responsibilities overview:​

Application

• Opens from June 6th - June 23th

  • This is only a 3 question application and should take no more than a couple of minutes to complete​ ​

Selection

• Peer Listeners will be chosen June 25 ​

  • Information Session June 30th 

    • 30 minute virtual information session that will be recorded for those who can not attend regarding program overview and answering listeners questions.

Training

• Peer Listeners will complete a self-paced 3 hour online trained by July 15th

  • This will trains Peer Listeners on topics such as active listening, empathetic communication, and referral resources.

  • At the end of the training you will sign up for a mock session at your convenience, but to be scheduled before August 1st. 

    • There will be no additional required training throughout the year.

Peer Listeners responsibilities​

• During the year

  • Peer listeners will create a weekly or bi-weekly schedule of hours they are available to host a peer listening session with the maximum being 4 hours to reduce burn out. 

  • Peer listeners are encouraged to commit at least 2 hours a week of time slots available. 

    • For peer listeners who are no longer able to commit to book appointments can take time off and reapply next cycle​

Overall

• Overall there are only 3 major responsibilities that you will have to do during the summer with accommodations given when requested. 

  • Although you will undertaking the tasking of providing mental support to your peers, the peer listeners experience is meet to be as stress free as possible. There will be optional check in sessions for peer listeners who would like additional support as volunteers.
